Gredos Ibex hunt with Crystal & David Watts
Both Crystal & David were looking for the Spanish Ibex Slam, and with these Gredos Ibex they completed it. Both took very old & excellent trophies in this last part of the trip.
The Gredos Ibex is the most famous and most well-known type of Spanish Ibex. They inhabit the Gredos Mountains in the western part of the country. They have survived as a royal species protected by the Kings of Old Spain.
Capra Pyrenaica Victoriae
The population density in Gredos is quite high and they have the second largest body mass on average. Known for their impressive horn size and ‘lyre’ configuration, the Gredos Ibex is king. The Gredos Ibex has the second largest body mass of the four Ibex Species expressions and displays some of the most impressive horns with its dark body. Typically, the horns are lyre-shaped with a pronounced curve and a spiral turn of more than 180 degrees. Horn thickness decreases progressively from the base to the very thin tip.
Impressive, granite stone mountains, with very little forest, which can reach as high as 7,000 feet high. The Mountain Range of Gredos is a 2 - 3hour drive west of Madrid.
September 15th – June 15th
The last 3 weeks of November and the first of December
Mid-High. There are very few dirt roads, so this type of hunt requires long hikes through steep mountainous terrain.
